Our in-house capabilities cover optical emission spectroscopy (OES), wet chemistry and elemental analysis by positive material identification (PMI). These state-of-the-art techniques allow our teams of industry-leading technicians to accurately identify the elemental composition of a variety of metals and alloys to ensure that the correct specifications are met long before components enter service. This testing is vital for confirming alloy grades, detecting impurities, proving long-term integrity and verifying compliance with industry standards such as ASTM, ISO, and EN specifications. 

This process uses spark excitation, where an electrical discharge is applied to the sample surface, causing a small portion of the material to vaporise. This creates a plasma that emits light with unique spectral lines corresponding to the elements present. By analysing these light emissions, our chemical analysis specialists can precisely identify and quantify the elemental composition of the sample. The final report provides a detailed percentage breakdown of each constituent element. 

This quick, non-destructive testing method is deployed to verify the elemental composition of metals. Using an X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyser, PMI efficiently confirms alloy grades, identifies materials and inspects large batches. The test can be performed directly on finished parts or components that cannot be shipped, altered or damaged, making it a highly valuable process for material verification and traceability during or after production.
